Pre-Orientation

Welcome to FSU!

We look forward to welcoming you as our newest 'Nole.

Orientation can be both exciting and overwhelming. To minimize problems and reduce confusion, we encourage you to take the following steps before you get to campus:

Admission

  • Pay your Admissions Deposit by the deadline.
  • Admissions Online Status Check: Verify your residency status, major, and more.
  • Update your major, email, other contact information or application as needed.
  • Orientation

  • Spring: Register & pay for orientation by the deadline.
  • Summer/Fall Freshmen or Sophomore Transfers: Register & pay for orientation by the deadline.
  • Summer/Fall Junior or Senior Transfers: Register & pay for orientation by the deadline.
  • Housing

  • Apply for on-campus housing as early as possible.
  • If not living on campus, make housing arrangements early. See Off-Campus Housing for assistance.
  • Financial Aid

  • Apply for financial aid as early as possible.
  • If eligible, apply for Bright Futures.
    Note: This must be done while in high school.
  • Immunization/Health History & Insurance Requirements

    An online tutorial is available to guide you through these requirements. CLICK HERE TO VIEW
  • Submit your immunization/health history form to the Thagard Student Health Center before arriving for orientation. You can find this form for download by clicking HERE. You will not be able to register for courses until this is done.
  • After submitting the immunization/health history form, call the immunization office (850/644-6230) to confirm your records are complete and clearance has been granted. Bring a back-up copy with you to orientation.
  • Complete the online health insurance verification waiver found HERE. You are required to prove appropriate health insurance coverage via online waiver or purchase the University sponsored plan before you will be able to register for courses. Do this before orientation!
  • Computer Requirement

    FSU requires students to own a computer that meets the minimum standards set by the University. Proficiencies with computing technologies enhance educational and career goals. In addition, more and more of the various curricula and their supporting materials are now delivered via technological means that require mobility. (See Computer Requirements.)

    Before Academic Advising at Orientation

  • Read the Academic Life section of New 'Nole.
  • Bring with you to orientation any information you have about possible college credit including: AP, IB, AICE, CLEP (scored or a list of tests taken); Dual enrollment (college transcripts or list of courses); Transfer credit (transcripts or a list of courses).
  • Incoming freshmen should review the following engagement opportunities available to them:
    - First Year Experience Course (FYE)
    - Freshmen Interest Groups (FIGs)
    - University Honors Program
    - Living-Learning Programs

    Read the Student Handbook

    Familiarize yourself with FSU's services, resources, and the policies that will be apart of your college experience at FSU. Please special attention to the Academic Honor Policy, Study Conduct Code, and other administrative policies/rules: 2008-2009 FSU Student Handbook.

    Activate your FSUID & FSU Email Account

    As a student, much of the business you will conduct with the Unviersity will be done through campus.fsu.edu. Academic and non-academic resources, course information, and other tools are housed in campus.fsu.edu under the "Secure Apps" tab to protect your identity and secure your privacy. You must activate your FSUID and create a pin to access these services in addition to your FSU email account and course registration. You may activate your FSUID, FSU email account, and enter campus.fsu.edu as soon as you have been accepted to FSU and acquired your FSUCard. You will not have access to course registration as an undergraduate student until you have successfully completed orientation.

    What to Bring to Orientation

  • Photo Identification (so you can get your FSUCard)

  • Pen & paper

  • Umbrella

  • Comfortable walking shoes!!

  • Lunch money

  • Book bag for orientation materials

  • Your Seminole Smile

  • Also, if you are attending a freshmen/lower-division transfer orientation that requires you to stay in campus housing: Pillow, sheets, blanket, towel, personal toiletries, and an alarm clock!
